New Year, New Movies!
Happy New Year! Whether you think New Year’s Eve is just another page turning on the calendar, or you truly believe that 2026 will usher in a more productive, healthier version of yourself, there’s something undeniably hopeful and inspiring about imagining that a new year might bring a whole new you.
There is something potent about the end of a year; cultures worldwide ring in the new year with good-luck rituals rooted in ancient Babylonia. People do things like pour lentils over their heads, eat 12 grapes, jump seven waves, open all windows and doors, and leave their homes spotless before January 1st to ensure a prosperous and orderly year.
2026 is a blank slate to fill with new friendships, new places to explore, and a bunch of new art to engage with. Kick off this new year by watching two newer titles we are excited to share, both available to watch in full now on our TheArchiveMovies YouTube channel!
First up, we have Take My Hand (2024), which follows an Australian woman whose fast-paced London career is suddenly upended by an MS diagnosis and the loss of her husband. Returning home with her three sons to rebuild her life, she reconnects with a childhood sweetheart and begins to rediscover love, joy, and stability in unexpected ways. It’s a warm, moving story about family, resilience, and finding your footing again when life doesn’t go as planned.
Also, we have Young Hearts (2020) which explores the delicate, awkward, and deeply emotional world of first love. When Tilly, a high school freshman, falls for her brother’s best friend Harper, a senior, their secret relationship challenges social norms and exposes the double standards surrounding young love and gender expectations. Thoughtful and heartfelt, this coming-of-age drama captures the beauty and heartbreak of growing up and the challenges of the evolution of being human.
These two films, although very different, remind us that in this new year, there is room for lots of love and growth. Cheers to new beginnings and happy watching!
