2025 Summer Movie Season is Officially Here!

The weather is getting warmer, which can only mean one thing: Summer movie season is upon us! And it’s already making waves at the box office. The action-packed launch of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has kicked things off, pulling in impressive numbers during its debut weekend. Meanwhile, early reviews for Marvel’s Thunderbolts look strong, implying that audiences may be in for a hit. And in a blast from the past, the re-release of Revenge of the Sith is drawing big crowds, reminding everyone why Star Wars nostalgia never falters.

This Summer, Hollywood is giving us franchise finales and unexpected genre mashups. Ethan Hunt may be facing his final mission in Mission: Impossible 8, and a new actor is donning the cape in DC’s reboot of Superman. Adam Sandler returns in a new light with Happy Gilmore 2, this time as a golf dad. And Pedro Pascal is having a summer moment, appearing in a romantic drama, a superhero film, and a mind-bending A24 thriller directed by Ari Aster.

May brings a fresh lineup of major releases, including a live-action Lilo & Stitch and Wes Anderson’s latest film. June brings action-packed excitement via animated adventure in How to Train Your Dragon, an exciting and highly anticipated continuation with 28 Years Later Alex Garland & Danny Boyle and a modern Manhattan love triangle led by Dakota Johnson in Materialists, with Director Celine Song's follow up to her award winning debut film, Past Lives.

In celebration of Summer movie season, we wanted to highlight a few summer-set gems worth revisiting from our catalogue, perfect for viewers craving something a little more offbeat and nostalgic!

The film Summer City is set in 1960s Australia. This moody coming-of-age drama follows four friends on a seaside bachelor getaway north of Sydney. As plans for a wild weekend spiral into tension and confrontation, a dangerous situation unfolds when a local father goes hunting for one of the boys, not just metaphorically. Featuring an early performance from Mel Gibson, Summer City captures the intensity and uncertainty of youth on the edge of adulthood.

Lastly, in the film Prince of Bel Air, the summer sun is hot, but Robin Prince (Mark Harmon) is hotter, at least in the minds of the housewives whose pools he tends. A carefree bachelor with a playboy streak, Robin finds himself unexpectedly smitten with Jamie (Kristie Alley), an avant-garde artist who isn’t interested in casual flings. He’ll have to abandon his old ways and embrace something resembling maturity to win her over. Equal parts steamy and sweet, Prince of Bel Air delivers a sun-soaked story about change, charm, and chasing the one.

Whether you're lining up for a blockbuster or discovering a cult favorite, something about the summer movie season adds a certain romance to escaping the summer heat by sitting in a cold theater.
