2024 Paris Olympic Games

The 2024 Paris Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, are set to be a spectacular fusion of tradition and innovation. The Olympics have always surpassed the boundaries of sport, embodying the resilient human spirit as it reaches the pinnacle of physical and mental excellence. Paris has a rich history with the Olympics, having hosted the Games twice before, in 1900 and 1924. The 2024 Olympics mark the 100th anniversary of the last time the city hosted the Games, making this a particularly momentous occasion.

Tennis star Coco Gauff will represent the United States as the female flag bearer at the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris this week, according to an announcement from the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee on Wednesday.

During the opening events on Friday, hundreds of U.S. athletes will participate in a boat procession down the River Seine through central Paris. Twenty-year-old Gauff will join basketball legend LeBron James in carrying the American flag. Both athletes were selected by a vote of their fellow Team USA members.

This legendary display of endurance and achievement has inspired athletes and sparked creativity in other realms. Films like the Oscar-winning One Day in September delve into the intense and often dramatic world of the Olympics, revealing stories of triumph and tragedy. Meanwhile, animated features like Animalympics bring the spirit of the Games to younger audiences, infusing fun and fantasy into the Olympic narrative.

In this blog, we encourage you to get excited about the 2024 Olympic Games by watching One Day in September and Animalympics to celebrate how the Olympics have inspired films for the whole family.

In the Oscar-winning documentary One Day in September, narrated by Michael Douglas, the 1972 Munich Olympics were billed as the Olympics of Peace and Joy but became the Olympics of terror. An extreme Palestinian terrorist group called Black September held 11 Israeli athletes hostage as the world looked on, incredulous. Along with footage taken at the time, this Academy Award-winning documentary includes interviews with the surviving terrorist as well as various officials.

In Animalympics, animals from around the world gather on stage and compete in their own Olympic Games in this animated feature. The Animal Kingdom's ZOO network covers the events held on Animal Olympic Island. They feature a variety of summer and winter sports, including marathon running, gymnastics, figure skating, bobsledding, swimming, and more! This film features comedy legend Gilda Radner, Billy Crystal of When Harry Met Sally, and Harry Shearer of The Simpsons.

The 2024 Paris Olympics is an unforgettable celebration of sports, culture, and innovation. As the world comes together in the City of Light, we will witness the incredible achievements of athletes and the enduring power of the Olympics to unite the world.
