🎉 🎂Happy 97th Birthday NBC!!: The Legacy of NBC's Monday Movie

This week, we delve into the archives of the NBC Movie of the Week to highlight a chilling thriller that captivated audiences on October 26th, 1992 – In The Deep Woods. Before we plunge into the mysterious narrative of this gripping film, let's take a moment to reflect on the enduring legacy of the NBC Monday Movie and its midweek companions, Tuesday and Wednesday Night at the Movies. We do so in honor of the 97th anniversary of the launch NBC, which on November 15th, 1926, debuted with a four hour radio broadcast from the ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City.

The NBC Monday Movie, a television series that graced screens every Monday night from 1963 to 1999, was originally introduced as "NBC Monday Night at the Movies." In 1965, a shift to Tuesdays led to a name change, rebranding the series as "The NBC Tuesday Night Movie." Movies of the week were HUGE on all of the major networks across the 80's and 90's. These shows weren't just sources of entertainment; they became cultural phenomena in American television history.

In The Deep Woods was as a standout entry within the expansive collection of the NBC Movie of the Week. Airing on Monday, October 26th, 1992, this film became the final project for Anthony Perkins, renowned for his iconic role as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and also features Will Patton (Armaggeddon, The Postman, The Mothman Prophecies). Amy Ryan (The Office US, Gone Baby Gone, Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Win Win) also stars in this movie in the role of Beth.

The plot unfolds with Joanna Warren, portrayed by Rosanna Arquette, mourning the loss of her friend, a victim of a meticulous serial killer who targets successful young women. Dumping the bodies in the deep woods and leaving no trace behind, the killer baffles the police, setting the stage for a suspenseful and chilling narrative

Following the funeral, private investigator Paul Miller (Anthony Perkins) enters the scene. His presence raises Joanna's suspicions, leading her to question the intentions of everyone around her. The film weaves elements of mystery, psychological tension, and the ominous backdrop of the deep woods, delivering a riveting thriller and a making it a great addition to the NBC Movie of the Week legacy.
