From Turkey to Terror: Exploring Thanksgiving-Themed Horror Films
With leaves falling and temperatures dropping...scenes of Fall are everywhere! The amazing Fall holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving, offer a season of pumpkins, costumes, and gratitude. Colder temperatures and this time of year also means a lot more time inside in front of your tv. With the exciting announcement of the new horror film, Thanksgiving, premiering on November 17th we'll explore another Thanksgiving-themed horror gem, Buzzard Hollow Beef, streaming on TheArchive now!
In Buzzard Hollow Beef, Jordan Vollmer looks forward to a relaxing Thanksgiving weekend with her family and her best friend Paige. As the group ventures into the small town of Buzzard Hollow, they are greeted with strange and unsavory characters, known around these parts as the Solomon family. When the Vollmers experience horrifying hallucinations, they begin to suspect that the Solomons are somehow involved. This film features Scott. C Brown as Sheriff Lloyd and is directed by Joshua Johnson and a creation of A Man & A Woman Productions.
What sets this film apart is its penchant for genre deconstruction and unsettling imagery. It doesn't shy away from disturbing content while adding a Lynchian foreboding effect. The film was selected at numerous film festivals, received multiple award nominations in categories such as best feature, best actress, and best-supporting actor, and won FANtastic Award for its outstanding special effects.
Although Halloween is usually a cinephile's favorite holiday, just because it's over, doesn't mean the holiday horror films have to die! Thanksgiving is slowly inspiring filmmakers to create quirky, comedic, and entertaining horror films to keep the creepy festivities going. Prepare for Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving by indulging in the quirky spookiness of another Thanksgiving horror film like Buzzard Hollow Beef!
