Holocaust Remembrance Day

Image
Just a week ahead of Israel's 75th anniversary, TheArchive observes Holocaust Remembrance Day and remembers the millions who perished and the millions whose eternal light continues to shine as a beacon of hope.  Humanity will triumph in the face of any challenge and transcend any wrong. Oscar winning documentary,  The Long Way Home , echoes those ideals as it depicts the plight of Jewish refugees after World War II that contributed to the creation of the State of Israel.  The film examines the horrific conditions for Jewish refugees even in post-war Europe, as antisemitism was still prevalent and poverty the norm.  The formation of the State of Israel is explored, along with the ensuing debates around its formation. Narrated by Morgan Freeman,  The Long Way Home  features Edward Asner, Sean Astin, and Martin Landau. Never forget. TheArchive  channel is dedicated to aficionados and lovers of story, craft, and silver screen fun – streaming rare, retro, and 4K restored films and cl

Veterans Day: TheArchive's War Heroes Collection

Image
This Veteran's Day,  TheArchive  is proud to present our war heroes collection and salute the brave soldiers celebrated in these films. Martin Sheen, Charles S. Dutton, and Patty Duke star in A Matter of Justice , based on a true story about a mother seeks justice in response to the mysterious murder of her young Marine son. She suspects her manipulatively-seductive daughter-in-law likely coerced a Marine into committing the act. When the puzzle is finally pieced together, the mother arrives at the epiphany that her son’s death was the fundamental element in a larger-scale scheme to reap his military benefits.  In Love and War , follows the true story of Vice Admiral James Stockdale (James Woods who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance), a high-ranking naval officer with the distinction of being the longest held POW in Vietnam; and his wife Sybil Stockdale (Jane Alexander) co-founder of the National League of Families, a nonprofit organization that worked on behalf

Memorial Day Spotlight: War of 1812 Docuseries

This was originally published 5/27/21 and updated 5/26/22 Now more than ever we must honor our fallen heroes. Those who step in to fight for liberty and democracy; for the sanctity of human life. Those on the front line fighting wars large or small; on any battlefield on any part of our planet. And those not often discussed that still paved a vital path to democracy. The War of 1812, while known by name, is often one of those long running series of battles and significant losses of life, that is not well known in story.  War of 1812 , the four part docuseries, brings to life an extraordinary conflict that decided the fate of North America, confirmed the creation of Canada, and annihilated the dream of an independent Native nation.   Featuring robust reenactments of the battles and tense correspondence between leaders,  War of 1812  offers a rare look at history.  The depth of death and loss among Canadian militia forces and losses among native tribes was staggering for its time or any

TheArchive: Presidents in Conflict

Image
This post was originally published on (2/15/21) and updated on (2/21/22) . On the eve of some unpredictable tensions across the world, this President’s day TheArchive honors the Presidents who have led our country through conflict. Some have guided us past it while others caused it.   Either way, it’s challenging at the top, especially as we see President Biden navigate some very provocative leadership moments this week.  These stories of leadership have carved their way into our zeitgeist as they help to inform how our future can and may be shaped. In Ronald Reagan, The Hollywood Years, and Ronald Reagan, the Presidential Years , we track Reagan’s rise to power and his brush with the kind of conflict he could rise above. From that iconic moment on stage with Goldwater in 1964, to his governorship shortly thereafter, to his presidency, Reagan is celebrated as one of the most popular presidents of our time. But we also learn that the Iran-Contra affair certainly led to some unseen co
