TheArchive's Streaming Stocking Stuffers

Image
Each holiday season we dig deep into TheArchive  to provide something nostalgic that brings back that festive feeling. This year, for each day of Christmas, we're giving you another reason to watch.  So grab a comfy place to relax, curl up with some cocoa and popcorn (or just a splash of eggnog) because we've got 12 streaming stocking stuffers waiting to be unwrapped.  What better way to start than the antithesis of current release, Violent Night.  In  MY SANTA, MY DAD,  Gordon Covington's job keeps him from numerous family obligations. When he misses Christmas with his wife and kids, a grievous situation leads to his transformation into Santa Claus himself. You can see how one may confuse the two.... Next up is a "Soviet-based film" to celebrate the recent release of Brittney Griner. CANDLES IN THE DARK features Alyssa Milano, Chad Lowe, and Max Schell. Set in Soviet-occupied Estonia, a beautiful young American falls in love with a handsome rebel leader. She bec

Kirstie Alley: TheArchive Remembers

Image
Kirstie Alley, two-time Emmy winner (Cheers) and one of the biggest stars in 1980s and 90s comedy (and one of the TheArchive 's favorites) has passed after a battle with cancer. She was 71. TheArchive has a couple great films starring Kirstie. One is the original version of Blonde long before Netflix's. It's sexy, timeless, and gets better reviews. It has an amazing cast including Poppy Montgomery as Marilyn, Patricia Richardson, Patrick Dempsey, Wallace Shawn, Griffin Dunne, Emily Browning, Jensen Ackles, Ann-Margret, and of course the late Kirstie Alley who played "Aunt Grace" one of the most influential women in young Norma Jeane's young life and who was at one point her legal guardian. A year before they starred in the cult hit "Summer School," Mark Harmon and Kirstie Alley showed their romantic comedy chemistry in Prince of Bel-Air

We start with the film Dirty Games , an "expedition to the dirty abyss of professional sports." Benjamin Best (CNN Journalist of the Year 2011) gives us a peek behind the scenes at the all too "fascinating" world of sports to unveil a multi-billion juggernaut. Have a look into how the sports system truly operates. Now we transition to heroics, legends, and GOATs. R ick King wrote and directed a fair

Tarantino and TheArchive

While promoting his new book, “Cinema Speculation,” at an event hosted by Elvis Mitchell this week, Tarantino announced that next year he will shoot an 8 episode TV series. No stranger to TV, but this will be the first time Tarantino will create an original series. He also happened to mention that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is his best film. And of course, he reiterated his 10th film will be his final  but revealed it will also be an original screenplay. This on the heels of Mitchell's newly released documentary on Netflix "Is That Black Enough for You?!?" which as RogerEbert.com explains it, " Every time you think he may skip over a chapter of Black movie history, he finds a way to incorporate it." TheArchive  is a big fan of Mitchell's work and while he does not spend any time on our title The Return of Superfly he does spend a good amount talking about Superfly and its influential soundtrack. In a recent interview Mitchell explanis, " Let’s be ho
