Streaming Spotlight: Marilyn and the Real 'Blonde'

Image
Norma Jean Baker may need an introduction but Marilyn need not. The life of Marilyn Monroe has left so many stones yet to be overturned. And in just the few decades she was on the planet, more content, drama, and speculation has been conjured than could fill the annals of history.  Since we still have so much to learn, and the collective world has told us they have not grown weary of that learning, we wanted to celebrate this undeniable iconoclast’s birthday with some of our favorites from TheArchive . We start with Blonde , because it’s sexy, timeless, and has an amazing cast including Poppy Montgomery as Marilyn, Patricia Richardson, Patrick Dempsey, Wallace Shawn, Griffin Dunne, Emily Browning, Jensen Ackles, Ann-Margret, and Kirstie Alley. While Netflix has the Brad Pitt produced version starring the impossibly gorgeous Ana de Armas coming soon, TheArchive has our’s ready to stream free now on Roku . This mini-series mixes a fictional interpretation of Marilyn Monroe with actual e

No Shirt, No Mask, No Service for Ricky Schroder

Image
We've got a doozy for you this week. We all know Ricky Schroder has a hard time staying out of the news, but he literally couldn’t even keep his mask on this week at Costco let alone his shirt on in Target for Rage , the latest gem we’ve dug up from TheArchive .   TFR stars Ricky, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Henry Winkler (or as Gen Z calls him, “that funny old guy who won an Emmy for his role in that amazing Bill Hader show.”) Hey Gen Z, it’s too bad THE FONZ came into his own so late in his career! Nevertheless, we were lucky enough to find some of his work that came out around the time you were born.   More than 20 years before the discovery of Winkler in Barry , he starred in this 1997 TV drama Target for Rage based on the 1992 Lindhurst High School shooting. Ricky Schroder who, in addition to playing a real-life lunatic in a Costco near you just the other day, apparently also played himself in Get Him to the Greek -- national treasure Jonah Hill’s two hander opposite Russell Br

Mental Health Awareness Month: Watch "The Rest of Us"

Image
To coincide with Mental Health Awareness month, TheArchive is proud to announce the acquisition of  THE REST OF US . Directed by Dr. Linda G. Mills, artist, author, scholar and Executive Director of NYU's Center on Violence and Recovery, THE REST OF US chronicles student resilience in the face of a mental health crisis on the campus of Blair University. Set in the Fall of 2001, a diverse group of college students spring into action when confronted by the reality of a suicide.  The film follows Amy (Amanda Debraux), an introverted engineering student whose resistance, and resilience, inspires those who are left behind -- the rest of us.  "Each person's struggle is a call to action," Mills said. " THE REST OF US provides a compelling dose of inspiration and insight that can help transform our response to the mental health crisis in this country." Mills has been producing and directing movies with a particular focus on social change for nearly a decade and is

Tyler Perry and This Year's Oscars: "Don't Hate Anybody"

Image
This year’s Oscars was certainly a different affair. But one more memorable believe it or not, than years past. It had an intimacy that felt more personal and story-driven than ever before. Tyler Perry said it best, "It is my hope that all of us would teach our kids, and not only to remember, just refuse hate. Don't hate anybody." Kudos to Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher, and Jesse Collins who made the show far more about the stories behind the stories rather than the glitz and glamour ahead of the stories - a noble effort to get us all longing for a return to the movie theaters.   It was fascinating to hear the humble beginnings of the nominees. Some started out by making popcorn in a theater, selling junk out of their car to make ends meet, apprenticing, often for free on an independent film set, or in the case of last night's Humanitarian Award winner Tyler Perry, he was homeless.   We sometimes lose sight of the fact that most in Hollywood were not born in Hollywoo
