Occult and Evil in the Horrors of Vietnam

Image
Written by Vietnam historian Peter Alan Lloyd,  M.I.A. A Greater Evil   is a thrilling horror film that touches on the conspiracy theories and notions surrounding the Vietnam War—those that suggest nearly 2,000 POWs were lost and kept captive in the jungles of Vietnam.  M.I.A.  deals with one of the great conspiracy theories of the 20th century, detailing the unknowns and the uncomfortable truths. In M.I.A. A Greater Evil, a group of American college students embark on an expedition in search of gold throughout the war-torn jungles of Vietnam. The college students (Valerie Bentson, Sarah Ball, and Mark Matula) are joined by their Geology professor in search of gold along a river in Vietnam.  With past stories of French gold miners finding riches within the waters, their intrigue is not deterred by rapids, detoured routes, or talk of the War and its ominous presence over the area. But their dreams of riches quickly unravel when an unintended detour leaves the group

TheArchive's Archivist: Harry Eskin Discovers Ted Danson/Kim Cattrall Pilot

One of the most exciting experiences for a motion picture archivist is to discover a movie or TV show that audiences haven’t seen in a long time, or have never seen at all, and to make that discovery newly available to viewers. At TheArchive , one title that gave us archivists that exhilarating opportunity for discovery is the early 1980s TV show  Tucker’s Witch . And what better time than Halloween to roll it out.... Tucker’s Witch  aired for only one season, from 1982 to 1983. The show is about a married couple, Amanda and Rick Tucker, played by Catherine Hicks and Tim Matheson, who run a detective agency, with the notable twist that Amanda is a witch who uses her psychic powers to help solve the crimes. The first episode of the show features a young Ted Danson as the villain, a serial killer. That episode aired only six days after audiences saw Danson in a very different role, on the premiere episode of  Cheers , the show that made him a household name. There is an interesting prod

Beyond the Mask: American Independence

Image
With July 4 th falling on a Saturday, parties would normally be off the charts around the country. But this weekend, for so many reasons, celebrations may be more subdued. Celebrating our nation's independence will be a right and privilege each person here in the states can exercise and t his particular writer will be home with his family revisiting a popular TheArchive movie, BEYOND THE MASK . I thought it ironic given this Covid-19 time, that a film celebrating American independence would have such an apt title.    Beyond the Mask , in beautiful 4K, is an action-packed adventure romance set in 1776 during the turmoil of the Revolutionary war, bringing history to life in a story filled with liberty, freedom, and faith. Based on true events, the film features action, battles, and suspense, leading up to the historic signing of the Declaration of Independence. Andrew Cheney stars as William Reynolds, Kara Kilmer as Charlotte Holloway, Alan

4K Restoration - It's On!

Image
Film restoration is a tedious process that produces wondrous digital remasters of cult classic films. Films are fully restored to present an updated version of the movie once enjoyed by many audiences, years and years ago. The restoration involves many parts and working with film scanning technicians and editors - from color correction to sound cleanup - giving the film a fresh face and new life – elevating it to Ultra HD. The process starts with scanning the film. Before scanning, our film technician inspects the film, and if necessary, physically cleans off dirt and smudges – any ‘interferences’ that may disrupt the quality of the film to be scanned. Then, by scanning each frame of the reel individually, the film is converted into pixels as a raw digital file, and therefore a "digital replica," so that the digital remastering process can begin. This is where the coloring, sound and overall editing can begin to restore the flick. Here, things can get labori
